I love the fact that Jack is both old enough to get out and about now, and so portable. Ten lbs or so, and a bag of formula diapers and extra changes of clothes bring his total weight to an adjusted 15 lbs. It's even less in metric. This weekend we were packing him up and taking him out and about for most of his waking and a few of his non-waking hours. Saturday was spent shopping and celebrating Andy's third consecutive surprise birthday party. This is the third consecutive year that he has found out about it ahead of time.
Fail.
Next year I think we should have a surprise party for him in which we copy him on all the emails. That way we can not stress about him finding out, he can play along and no one gets hurt.
Andy's party was also Jack's coming out of quarantine party. It was nice letting other people get to meet him and be out among friends with my family. It was a new experience, having a kid to care for that supersedes all conversations or goings-on around me. I ended up having to sneak off with him a few times just to give him a break. It's tough to meet 18 new people in one shot. Probably more so when you haven't ever met 18 people. All together. I could tell he was a bit distressed after a while.
Today was spent at the Georgia Aquarium. For a weekend afternoon in the summer it was pretty low key and didn't really start to get crowded until just before we left. The aquarium is not a new thing for me,I've been several dozen times, but this afternoon we found viewing tanks that I had never seen, or at least places that I had never seen them from. The Oceans Ballroom was opened up for extra seating during lunch and I found my way to the opposite side of the Beluga tank, viewing it from the much more shallow back end where the two females tend to spend most of their time.
Our evening has been spent mostly resting and relaxing. I finished up my core for the CPR instructor course and even got a nap in before a quiet dinner with my wife. This makes two weekends in a row that my wife and I have gotten out and about. Also two weeks in a row that we have had romantic dinners. Last week was dinner at Imperial Fez followed by dessert/coffee at Cafe Intermezzo.
This is a trend that I could get used to.
